Thing #1
The hardest things for me to do in the 7th steps to a lifelong learner included, View problems as challenges, have confidence in yourself, and create your own learning toolbox. I rarely view problems as challenges, I have always been taught to view problems as problems. I have confidence in myself when I am doing certain tasks, but in school I am not ver confident in my ability to learn well. My learning toolbox i feel is empty with no tricks in it. The easiest things for me to accomplish include, beginning with an end in mind, accepting responsibility for my own learning, use technology to my advantage, mentor/teach other, and play. These have always come easy to me and i have aways excelled at these tasks. I want to learn how to use websites catered for teachers better. I know the basic websites but i do not know any specifically made for the tasks i am trying to accomplish. After play with it for a short time i found web 2.0 very easy.

A lot of people deal with not having confidence in their learning ability and its understandable because with learning anything the information is new until you learn it, and then its not so scary anymore! I have found that when your share your fears of the unknown you find that you are not the only one, and for me that alone makes me feel better and know that I am no different from any of my peers and this gives me confidence that I too can learn anything!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more with greateducatorpugh12's comment regarding your post!
ReplyDeleteTo my great surprise, when I was reading this post, I felt like I was reading the post that I just made on my own blog a little while ago! I also view problems as problems, struggle with self-confidence in this particular class, desire to become more proficient in using technology resources, find it easy to accept responsibility for my own learning, and have always found it easy to mentor/teach others.
This is the only class with which I have self-confidence issues. I don't doubt my ability to learn, but I feel overwhelmed by the amount that I must learn in such a short time frame! It is said that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and I might just be as strong as an ox by the end of the semester! Actually, I really think that these struggles we face as education students will make us better teachers. I will definitely be able to empathize with my future students who are riddled with anxiety and feeling like the dumbest student in class, and I'll know how to help them!
A thought to think about... A problem is another opportunity to learn something new. Most problems are called problems because they put people out of their norm and the feeling of uneasiness comes about, but the second time one encounters something that could be labeled as a problem he/she will be more ready for it; even more so if that person see's the problem and remembers that instead an opportunity to learn something new has presented itself. I have faith in you because you are where you are now. I have seen so many friends and family fail due to lack of effort. So, keep the effort, build off of your strengths, and the confidence will follow.
ReplyDeleteSarah I struggle with the same learning habit. It is very hard for me to learn to view problems as challenges because I always try and have things planned out so nothing could possibly go wrong. Of course life doesn't always work out that way and when there is a bump in the road I just always try and find the easiest path around it. I am starting to see that sometimes things happen for a reason whether they be good or bad they are there to teach us all a lesson. It seems like life is the best teacher :)
